Linda Kolar

Linda M. Kolar is a transplanted Midwesterner who has pursued studio art from her home base in New Jersey.
Her artistic journey began with a one-credit class in life drawing at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.
Kolar specializes in portraits and landscapes, working primarily with oils. Her approach combines direct color and careful drawing, often from live subjects and occasionally using photo references.
In the late sixties, she commuted from Westfield, New Jersey, to the Art Students’ League of New York, where she honed her skills.
Throughout her artistic career, Kolar has been guided by notable instructors, including Patricia Sherwood, Marshall Glasier, Robert Beverly Hale, Jack Faragasso, Ted Seth Jacobs, and others.
She has exhibited her paintings in various local and regional shows, winning awards at events such as the Mountain Art Show in Bernardsville and exhibitions hosted by the Ridgewood Art Institute, Somerset Art Association, and the New Jersey Chapter of the American Artists’ Professional League.
Notably, her landscape piece titled “Ringwood Manor” was included in the A.A.P.L.’s Grand National Exhibit in 2002 at the Salmagundi Club.
Kolar actively exhibits with the Contemporary Art Group and the Art Centre of New Jersey.
She has held one-person shows at the Watchung Arts Center in 2000 and the Westfield Art Gallery in 2005.
Private collectors in New Jersey and New York State have acquired her paintings and drawings.
Additionally, Kolar’s scenes in oil were sold during “Artists on Location” events in Garrison, New York, from 1995 to 2000.
Her dedication to representational art continues through figure drawing sessions at various studios, including Minerva Durham’s Spring Studio, the Arts Guild of Rahway, and sessions at the duCret School of Art and the Art Centre of New Jersey.
